Redding was the Assistant coach of the freshman varsity basketball team in 1940. Redding played and captained the varsity football team in the year 1940 as well. Under Head coach Ed Hickox, the 1939-1940 Springfield College basketball team finished with a record of 16 wins and 3 losses, earning the honor of New England Champions. This was Hickox's 14th season as Head coach at Springfield College, and went on to coach for 2 more seasons. He ended his coaching career with a record of 209 wins and 85 losses, a winning percentage of .711.
