Arrangement Notes: Collection is arranged in the Following Order: Aquatic Club, Both Men and Women’s Teams, Women’s Synchronized Swimming, Women’s Swimming and Diving Teams, and Men’s Swimming and Diving Teams. Within these divisions materials are generally organized as follows: News Clippings, Photographs, Correspondence, Brochures, Drawings, and Misc. Materials. Within these materials, chronological order is kept wherever possible.
Processing Notes: Materials are minimally processed. Duplicates have been removed where found and materials have been minimally arranged and verified. Materials still may be missed filed or misidentified. Further processing should be undertaken at a later date.
Description Notes: The collection consists of one picture of the aquatic club, date unknown, three copies of the publication “The Story of Swimming at Springfield, 1915-1973”, and a folder with news clippings, news releases, alumni letters, and general information on both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams. There is also a folder with pictures and newspaper articles about the women’s synchronized swimming team that existed in the fifties.
In the women’s swimming and diving materials, there are news clippings, undated photographs, slides from 1985-1989, and brochures from the mid 1970’s through 2010, though there are many gaps especially before the mid 1990’s. There is also a copy of the Division A championship pamphlet from 1987. Finally there is a film of the 1970 water show by the “Marlin Club”.
In the men’s swimming and diving materials, there are news clippings, undated and dated team photos from 1915- ca. 1950, slides from the 1985 season, brochures from 1920-2010, though there are many gaps until the mid 1990’s, a drawing used by Marketing and Communications in publications, the 1988 Men’s Swimming Reunion publication, a bulletin article on William Yorzyk and his Olympic Triumph, a winter carnival program from 1932, some brochures from the New England Intercollegiate Swimming Association (NIESA), and score cards from 1959-1985. Also included is a document written by Charles Silvia entitled “Springfield College Wartime Swimming Program.
Provenance Notes: There was no formal acquisition of the materials for this collection. The collection is artificially created. Materials were received from different places at different times. The acquisition sources and dates of the materials are unknown.
