Springfield College Athletic Department:
Baseball Team Papers
Box List Created on: 4/7/10
Box List Updated on: 1/20/2012
Extent: 4.5 LF (7 boxes + memorabilia and film)
Arrangement Notes: Collection is arranged in the following order: The first three boxes are arranged chronologically. Within each year, miscellaneous materials are listed first, followed by news clippings, photographs, and slides. The fourth box contains Miscellaneous and/or Undated News Clippings, Photographs, and then Slides. Each of these divisions has miscellaneous materials filed first, followed by the rest of the materials in chronological order.
Processing Note: Films have not been watched or verified. Information on the date and who is playing was taken directly from the film cases or, where able, from a quick review of the frames. Only check that was performed was to verify that a baseball game or activity was on the film.
Materials are minimally processed. Duplicates have been removed where found and materials have been minimally arranged and verified. Materials still may be misfiled or misidentified. Further processing should be undertaken at a later date.
Description Notes: The collection consists of Baseball materials from 1892-2010. Among these materials there are Schedules, News Clippings, Publications, Photographs, Slides, Programs and Brochures.
In the General Material boxes there is a publication of “The story of Baseball at Springfield College”, Rosters, Schedules, and Topps All-Star Team Awards, News Clippings, a baseball reunion video from 1999, Slides from the Allen (Archie) and Potter (Diane) Days, photographs of fundamentals of Baseball, from visits to Fenway, many undated photos, and lots of player photos, including those from the 1983-85 seasons – most are unidentified. There are also eleven undated films (see box list for details) and an undated audio reel that says Baseball on it but is not confirmed.
The Team Materials by Year boxes consist mostly of schedules, team record, news releases, programs, news articles, photographs, slides and misc. publication. Of particular note are a group of Commemorative Baseballs from various games from 1907-1923 (not all games are represented), letters and documents regarding 1939 Centennial Baseball Game between Hartwick College vs. Springfield College and donated memorabilia from game to Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame including the glove worn by Roland F. “Bunny” Chapman SC class of 1940. a 1954-55 press release book for the National Collegiate Baseball Tournament, including descriptions of the games played that season and player sketches, a Baseball Scrapbook from 1962 (newspaper articles), and a 1992-93 College All Star Game – University Division vs. College Division - program played at Fenway. There are also one film of various games and/or pitching and hitting from 1961, 1962, 1963, 1965, 1968, 1970, and two films from 1969.
Provenance Notes: The vast majority of these materials were taken from the basement of the West Gymnasia in the Judd Gymnasium complex in the fall of 2009 (acquisition no. Z09-143). The rest of the materials had no formal acquisition and were received from different places at different times. The collection itself is an artificial collection.

1. Blue reel without casing that is half full – cannot tell, but stands looks very full and may be a professional game. Beginning is damaged
2. Reel says Roys, Mould and Moore – no other markings
3. Small black reel, only half of a case remains – no other markings
4. Small black reel, no case – appears to have some damage throughout film – looks to be from game 5. Small black reel, full case – sticker on inside says “Sullivan Batting Practice” – Looks like the other reels, though, so may be a game.
6. Medium sized black reel that is about ¾ full – Sticker says “Tom Sawyer, Chip Depalma, Delvehy (?) etc.” looks like it may be all pitching and there are black sections that may be used to separate the different pitchers shown.
7. Small black reel – sticker says “Hitting stueck (?) pitch (?)”
8. Large reel – no markings – beginning is all black and there is some damage to some of the film – finally starts with hitting
9. Small black plastic reel – No markings – Really unsure what this film is of – starts with a man in a suit and looks like it is some sort of ceremony. Also, stadium looks larger and not SC level. Leaving it in the baseball collection because it could be a coach or someone important or an important game for SC such as NCAA‟s or some championship game. Need to watch for real.
10. Small black reel – full case – stickers say “Jeff-Bosselman Kyle Fred- Tommy – Woly(?)”
11. Large grey reel – no case – no markings – This looks like a different film. It is filmed from far away like you would normally see a baseball game. Field looks different as well, larger and more professional
Undated Audio Reel – not confirmed as baseball, based purely on not on cover
